Principle of tinplate can printing
(1) The ink is required to have good adhesion and mechanical properties
As the tinplate printed matter will eventually be made into canned food, toys, metal frames and barrels and cans of chemical products, which need to be cut, bent and stretched, the printing ink is required to have good adhesion to tinplate and corresponding mechanical properties. In order to improve the ink adhesion, the first need for tinplate white backing before printing. White is the primary color of all pictures and has a high lightness. After adding other high energy hue, the brightness of each hue can be improved to form color gradation.
(2) Requirements for white ink
The surface of tinplate is silvery white (or yellow) and has metallic luster. Before printing color pictures and texts, the surface needs to be painted white or printed white. Limited by the ability of ink covering, monochrome machines often need to be printed white twice, and their whiteness can reach 75%. As an important indicator of the quality of tinplate printing products, whiteness requires that white ink has good binding force with primer, and does not turn yellow after repeated high-temperature baking and does not turn color after high-temperature steaming. The tinplate primer can increase the adhesion to the tinplate and has a good binding force to the white ink. The commonly used primer is epoxy amine type, with light color, after repeated baking no yellowing, no aging characteristics and good flexibility, impact resistance process performance.
